We’ve decided to officially open Maiden Desmodus this month after 6 months of being in open beta. It’s not much of a difference given that we’ve been open to players since June and we’re not having any kind of player wipe but we are having a special event to celebrate on Friday 8th January at 4pm PST / 7pm EST. Unfortunately this means it will be at midnight for me, but as most of our players and staff are in the US it made sense to go for a time more convenient for them. I shall be staying up late to attend of course!
Looking back over the last 6 months we’ve had quite a lot of new features and fixes go in and I certainly think we’ve come a long way from when we first opened the doors. We had a couple of crash bugs early and a nasty bug where characters could lose their inventory which took a while to track down, but fortunately those are all behind us. Overall I’ve been really pleased with the core Nakedmud codebase and the occasional memory leak aside the server has been stable and reliable.
We’re not finished by any means, and arguably no MUD ever is, but we felt that the core features of the design were in place and functional so it was time to officially open the doors. The focus now is going to move from feature development to marketing and player retention as we try to establish and grow a core player base. This isn’t easy by any means, but we’re determined to make the game a success.
The opening event is hopefully the first of many and we will be putting together a regular schedule of planned events to engage and entertain the players. We’ve also recently taken on a couple of volunteer staff members who will be able to help with events and also by role-playing with players on a regular basis.

Congratulations Matt! That means it’s time to start on the next game, no? ;D
